Two-degree-of-freedom powered prosthetic wrist.
Prosthetic wrists need to be compact. By minimizing space requirements, a wrist unit can be made for people with long residual limbs. This prosthetic wrist uses two motors arranged across the arm within the envelope of the hand. The drive is transmitted by a differential so that it produces wrist flexion and extension, pronation and supination, or a combination of both. As a case study, it was ...
متن کاملSpinal-like regulator facilitates control of a two-degree-of-freedom wrist.
The performance of motor tasks requires the coordinated control and continuous adjustment of myriad individual muscles. The basic commands for the successful performance of a sensorimotor task originate in "higher" centers such as the motor cortex, but the actual muscle activation and resulting torques and motion are considerably shaped by the integrative function of the spinal interneurons. Th...
متن کاملControl Strategies for a Multiple Degree of Freedom Prosthetic Hand
Some of the traditional methods used to control a conventional prosthetic device are described alongside the current state of new control techniques and how they may progress. The review includes implantable myoelectric sensors and describes the potential of connecting directly to the peripheral nervous system. Control methods are then deduced for each technique, where the application is a six ...
متن کاملomputer control of a powered two degree freedom reciprocating gait orthosis
Many investigations on orthotic devices for araplegics have been undertaken during the last 5 years. Ferris et al. 1 investigated an ankleoot orthosis powered by artificial pneumatic uscles. Harwin 2 discussed the theoretical coniderations for the design of simple teleoperators nd powered orthosis. Despite substantial adances, a suitable orthosis that gives paraplegics a inimum ability to walk ...
متن کاملComputer control of a powered two degree freedom reciprocating gait orthosis.
The design of a motion control system for a powered reciprocating gait orthosis is considered. Models for the orthosis are obtained using least squares identification. The control system design is based on pole-placement techniques and a restricted Youla parametrization of the controller. Experimental results are included.
